Why do I write?

Thoughts like water
Why do I write?
Deep as oceans,
Shallow as the frothy surf
On my tongue,
Or an echoing teardrop in a prisoner’s cave,
Ripples on the perfect glass,
Of my existence.
Or a storm of wind and fury,
Carelessly tossing trees and lives,
I am here I am alive, can anybody hear?
Sighing like the tide defeated
I am here and will be here again
What have I learned since last time?
The endless cycle ever takes me home.

    smart thoughts,
the way you use water to convey your sadness is divine.

Thank you Old-Raven. I am a visual writer though with poetry it is a mixture with the audio rhythm in my head. I’m sure many writers are the same

Beautiful poem and so true. If only we could unlock the secrets of spirit.
Your poem brought Merlin to mind. Don’t ask me why?

I think writing is a form of self-confirmation for lots of us. Besides, how do we know what we think until we write it down.

It is almost like, to me, that you leave this beautiful door open in these verses, and when one crosses the threshold, you will say, “I am the water, I am the frothy surf, I am the storm the wind the fury, I am the tide…..” For some reason or other I know your poem will lead me here. I think this is an incredible feeling to leave a piece of poetry with. Really incredible! Thanks for sharing this! Cindy
