Wide open

Wind ruffles the puddle
As I shelter from the rain
A sudden joy
At changing seasons
At cogs moving beyond my control
What a wide open world you are!

Outline of a mind

Clouds form about the hillside
An eddy in a stream circles the rock
My pen moves over paper
Making its own pattern
An outline of a mind
That lives like a shadow hardly changing
With the passing forms that cast it

A flock of jackdaws
Bursts upon the sky
So jealous!
So share with me
The stillness and silence
Of early morn

A slice of sky
Fades blue to black
Against the grey advance of night
It fills my heart with joy
